The Pain Center at Lakewalk

The Pain Center features a revolutionary new outpatient procedure for the treatment of patients with painful, degenerative disc disease. The diagram at right illustrates the Intradiscal Electrothermal Annuloplasty (IDET) surgery, which takes only 15 minutes and offers:

Minimal invasiveness and anesthesia
Reduced time and cost
Fast recovery

For some patients with chronic pain, spinal cord stimulation (SCS) offers a safe, effective and reversible means to manage pain and return to a more active lifestyle. This pain control therapy uses low-level electrical impulses to stimulate nerves in the spinal cord. In a minor surgical procedure, a small electronic device is implanted under the skin, and tiny electrodes are placed in the space above the spinal cord.

SCS interrupts the pain signals from the brain; pain signals that do not reach the brain are not felt. SCS was first developed in the early 1970s and has been used successfully to help thousands of people control their pain, in many cases allowing them to discontinue their pain medication.
